Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cups

Jump to Recipe

There’s a reason these Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cups have gone viral! Incorporating the crunchy and addictive pistachio kadayif filling with fresh and sweet strawberries all drizzled with delicious milk chocolate – this dessert is a winner!

Dubai Chocolate strawberry cups are the viral dessert of the moment!

If you are perpetually on TikTok like I am, you will have almost certainly seen the Dubai chocolate strawberry cups which have been absolutely everywhere. They take elements of the equally as popular Dubai chocolate bar but turn it into a simple and delicious dessert.

I’ve seen people travelling to food trucks and paying quite high prices for these tasty strawberry cups. With my recipe you can make this addictive dessert at home at a fraction of the cost!

Dubai Chocolate Strawberry Cup Ingredients

Although this dessert is very simple to make, sourcing the ingredients is the only slightly tricky aspect. But once you find the ingredients you’ll be well on your way to an absolutely fantastic dessert.

pistachio spread

Pistachio spread is essential for these Dubai chocolate strawberry cups. My favourite pistachio spread for baking is the Pisti brand. I bought it for Costo which is a much more reasonable price than you can buy it for online.

M&S also sell a pistachio creme but it is more expensive as slightly runnier. So if you use this you might end up with a runnier filling. Aldi and Lidl occasionally sell pistachio spreads but I personally don’t like their flavour.

Alternatively you can buy pistachio spread online, but you might have to pay slightly more.

kadayif

Kadayif or kataifi is a shredded filo dough popularly used in Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes.

I managed to get the kadayif for this recipe from Lidl during one of their themed weeks. This isn’t available year round so if you manage to find it you can stock up.

I would recommend checking your local Middle Eastern and Mediterranean supermarkets as they should stock the pastry. If you don’t live near any of these supermarkets you can buy it online but it will be more expensive.

Alternatively you could finely shred filo pastry. It might not be exactly the same but it should work pretty well.

Strawberries

Strawberries will always be more flavoursome when they are in season. So I would always recommend buying native strawberries where possible when they are in season.

However I understand cravings can crop up at anytime of year! So when picking strawberries out of season, just look for the most appealing ones you can find.

Size doesn’t really matter when it comes to this dessert as I chop them up in my version of this viral recipe. I have seen that some of the strawberry cups online keep the strawberries whole, but I feel like that’s a bit big and not as easy to eat.

chocolate

I have used milk chocolate as the main chocolate in this bar. I prefer milk chocolate and don’t think that it is too sweet with the pistachio filling. You could definitely use dark chocolate if you prefer.

I have used white chocolate with a small amount of gel food colouring to give the chocolate bar design slightly like some of the chocolate bars you buy.

This is absolutely not essential and you can skip this step altogether or just leave out the food colouring.

tahini

Although you can make these strawberry cups without tahini, I do recommend adding it if you can. It adds a creamy and nutty flavour and helps to balance out the sweetness of the pistachio spread.

You only need a small amount but it is easily available in large supermarkets and you can then use it for other things.

How to serve dubai chocolate strawberry cups

I have mainly seen this dessert served in plastic cups, that is more than likely because they are from food trucks or takeaways. But I have also seen people recreating it and serving it the same way.

Personally I think there is no need for this. Although you can of course just serve this dessert in a bowl, I prefer to serve it in a glass or jar.

Obviously the size of your glass will dictate how large you can make the dessert.

When it comes to actually assembling the dessert, there is no right or wrong way. As long as you get all three components into the glass, it doesn’t really matter how you do it.

I like to alternate between drizzling the melted chocolate, strawberries and pistachio kadayif mixture. This is so you get a bit of everything with each bite.

not a dessert for making ahead of time

These strawberry cups really are best eaten as soon as you have prepared them. We all know strawberries are at their freshest when they are served shortly after they are cut. But the other elements don’t do well being prepared in advance.

The Pistachio kadayif mixture becomes more solid as it cools. Although it will still taste delicious, the texture isn’t at it’s best when it becomes more firm. This is why I wouldn’t recommend making it until you are nearly ready to serve the dessert.

I’m sure we all know melted chocolate sets as it cools so you really do only want to melt this when everything else is ready to be assembled.

This pistachio kadayif mixture will set up if left for a while. It will still taste nice but the texture will be firmer.
