Air Fryer Chocolate Chip Cookies are ideal for when the cookie cravings hit! Deliciously soft cookies baked in a matter of minutes – the quickest way to get your cookie fix!
WHY USE AN AIR FRYER AND NOT AN OVEN?
Air fryers cook food quicker than a standard convection oven which is great for saving energy and pennies but also for busy families that want to be able to cook food quickly.
Another advantage is that air fryers are smaller than ovens and grills so you’re not heating up a full-sized oven and instead a smaller air fryer. This means you’re using less energy because you’re heating up a smaller appliance as well as cooking the food faster.
This is perfect for when you have a craving for one or two cookies and don’t want to heat up your whole oven to satisfy the craving.
the perfect way to bake a couple of cookies
Chocolate chip cookies are one thing I find myself craving but I don’t always want to bake the whole batch. Once I have made the cookie dough. I like to freeze it; either in balls ready to bake or in small amounts to defrost.
I can then bake a few cookies whenever I get the cookie craving. An air fryer is a quicker and more energy efficient way to bake a small amount of cookies.
You don’t have to wait for your oven to heat up which is a huge advantage when you’re impatiently wanting a cookie.
You can of course bake a whole batch of cookies in your air fryer, but you will have to bake them in shifts depending on the size of your air fryer.
how long do air fryer chocolate chip cookies take to bake?
I will always be a fan of soft gooey cookies. And the excellent thing about baking them in your air fryer is they only take 6-7 minutes to bake. Even less if your air fryer requires pre heating!
Don’t panic if after 7 minutes they are still really soft, they are meant to be. As tempting as they are to reach in and eat them straight away, you need to let them cool for at least 10 minutes.
The cookies will firm up as they cool and will easily lift off the parchment paper. If you try to take them off too soon you’re likely to leave half the cookie on the paper.
If you prefer a crisper cookie, bake them for a couple of minutes longer.
Alternatively if you choose to make bigger cookies, they will take a little longer to bake.
Using air fryer liners
Air fryer liners are a great time saving addition because they are usually easier to wash than the basket of your air fryer.
Although with most recipes I say using a liner is a personal choice, you really do need to use some parchment paper for these cookies! If you don’t the cookie dough will drip through the bottom of the air fryer basket as they bake.
Most reusable air fryer liners are silicone and although they are handy to have, I wouldn’t recommend using them for all recipes. Due to their thickness, I wouldn’t recommend using them for these cookies.
I’ve written a whole post on whether you should use an air fryer liner, check it out for more information.
make sure you use perforated parchment paper
When I was testing these air fryer chocolate chip cookies I found that using perforated parchment paper was essential.
When I didn’t use parchment paper with holes in, the paper blew up at the corners and covered some of the cookies. I have two air fryers and this happened when I used both of them.
You can buy perforated parchment paper sheets which are sold specifically for air fryers. Alternatively you can pierce holes in your paper with a chopstick like I did!
Leave space between the cookies
As is always the case when baking cookies, you need to make sure you leave enough room between the cookies to allow for spreading.
These cookies don’t spread too much compared to others, but you definitely want to make sure you leave space between them. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t, you’ll just end up with one big merged cookie.
how many cookies can you air fry at once?
How many cookies you can bake at once will depend on the size of your air fryer. I have two air fryers a Ninja Foodi 7-in-1 multicooker and a Ninja Foodi Flexdrawer. The multicooker has a 3.7L air fryer basket which is a lot smaller than the flexdrawer’s 10.4L capacity.
As there are so many different air fryers available all with varying capacities, it is impossible to say exactly how many you will be able to bake at once – especially as the size of the cookies can vary.
Can you air fry the cookies from frozen?
Cookies bake really well straight from the freezer. You just need to bake them for a couple of minutes longer than the recipe states until they are slightly golden.
You’ll find more information about how to freeze the cookies in my chocolate chip cookie recipe post.

Recipe Notes
The number of cookies you can cook at once will depend on the size of your air fryer basket. Make sure you don’t overcrowd the basket to allow for spreading.
If your air fryer requires preheating, your cookies may cook a couple of minutes quicker than the recipe states.
If you are cooking multiple batches of cookies, the second batch will cook faster as your air fryer will be warm.
Make sure you use perforated parchment paper to avoid it blowing over the top of the cookies.

Yum! My cookies were a little deformed because I’m greedy, have no chill and tried to fit 5 in a small air fryer! But they cooked super quick and tasted incredible – I’m going to try a giant one next!
