Air Fryer Korean Wings

Jump to Recipe

Perfectly crisp chicken wings coated in a delicious sweet & spicy Korean sauce, these Air Fryer Korean Wings are so addictive. They are the perfect addition to any buffet or as a light lunch or dinner.

korean inspired chicken wings

These tasty chicken wings are not an authentic Korean recipe. I have combined my air fryer wings with my sweet & spicy Korean sauce to make an easy and delicious wing recipe.

Although the sauce uses authentic Korean ingredients, it is my take on a Korean sauce. And when it comes to the wings themselves, in Korean they would probably have a batter on them for maximum crispness.

Why cook chicken wings in the air fryer?

Chicken wings are something that need to be crispy in my opinion. Cooking them on the BBQ is a great way to get them deliciously crisp, but this isn’t an option to everyone year round.

Cooking chicken wings in the oven does result in tasty wings, but they tend to take a while and always seem to lack something. Deep frying wings will provide the crisp skin, but isn’t most people’s go-to cooking preference.

That’s where air fryer chicken wings come in! They’re quick to cook and have the most perfectly crisp skin which is everything you need from a wing.

Once you have air fried chicken wings I highly doubt you will cook them another way!

air frying the chicken wings

I haven’t included the specific instructions for cooking the wings in this recipe because I recommend cooking them in the air fryer and I have a whole post which goes into that in detail.

Air frying wings is definitely my go-to way to cook wings. It is so quick and gets them perfectly crisp.

For a recipe like this, it doesn’t matter if you have to cook the wings in batches because they are going to be reheated at the end in a pan with the vegetables and seasoning.

You can of course cook them in the oven if you prefer. Just make sure they are fully cooked before moving onto the next stage in this recipe.

do these wings have a batter?

Like my salt & pepper wings, I have decided to keep these wings super simple and haven’t battered them.

I realise Korean fried chicken is usually battered, but to achieve that iconic crispness I think you’d need to fry them in oil. This isn’t something a lot of us would do regularly in the kitchen, therefore I decided to keep them easy for everyone to make.

The wings are still perfectly crisp from the air fryer, they just don’t have a batter.

Adding the wings to the sauce

The chicken wings aren’t going to cook further in the sauce so you need to make sure the wings are hot before adding them to the sauce.

I say this because depending on the size of your air fryer, you might have cooked the wings in batches. If you have, just add them all back to the air fryer for 3-4 minutes to make sure they are all piping hot before tossing them in the sauce.

I also like to make sure the sweet & spicy Korean sauce is hot when you add the wings. This is because as it cools it becomes thicker which makes it slightly harder to coat the wings evenly.

reheating these korean wings

You can reheat these chicken wings once they have been coated in the sauce. However due to the honey content in the sauce there is the slight risk that they could burn.

To combat this you could reheat them at a lower temperature, say 160C for 3-4 minutes. Or you could give them a blast in the microwave.

Alternatively I would recommend storing the wings and sauce separately. You can then reheat them individually before coating the wings in the sauce.

Of course you can also eat these Korean wings cold.

how to serve air fryer korean wings

These wings are perfect served as a snack, part of a main meal or addition to a buffet.

Whether you are serving them as a light lunch or dinner, my cucumber salad and crunchy Asian slaw would be perfect accompaniments.

You could serve rice alongside these wings, but I also think any of my air fryer potato recipes would work well too.
