These Air Fryer Herby Potatoes are packed full of flavour and really simple to make. They are easy enough to be part of a no frills midweek meal; but also that little bit special making them perfect to be served at a dinner party.
WHY USE AN AIR FRYER AND NOT AN OVEN?
Air fryers cook food quicker than a standard convection oven which is great for saving energy and pennies but also for busy families that want to be able to cook food quickly.
Another advantage is that air fryers are smaller than ovens and grills so you’re not heating up a full-sized oven and instead a smaller air fryer. This means you’re using less energy because you’re heating up a smaller appliance as well as cooking the food faster.
Air fryer herby potatoes couldn’t be easier!
If you’re looking for a really simple way to elevate your air fryer potatoes, then this is definitely the recipe for you!
With the help of my herby potato seasoning, you can transform any potatoes into a delicious flavour packed side dish.
which potatoes are recommended for air fryer herby potatoes?
Although I have sliced baby potatoes for these photos, you can pretty much use whichever potatoes you like and cut them however you like too!
You can use floury potatoes like Maris Piper and King Edward if you want to make herby chips, wedges or slices. These will have a fluffy centre but crisp exterior.
‘All rounder’ potatoes such as estima, melody or marfona would also be good options. If you’re in the US, Yukon Gold potatoes will work really well.
You can also use waxy potatoes such as red potatoes and baby/new potatoes. These varieties would work well to make herby smashed potatoes and hasselback potatoes.
There is no set variety or specific way you should cut the potatoes to make air fryer herby potatoes. Get creative and use the seasoning to make as many different variations as you like!
Obviously how you cut the potatoes may slightly vary the cooking time. Check on them and turn them at least once so you can monitor their cooking.
using dried herbs instead of fresh
One thing I love about these herby potatoes are that they are so simple to make and you won’t need to make sure you have fresh herbs available.
Fresh herbs are great, especially in recipes like my parmentier potatoes. But I don’t always have fresh herbs whereas like most people I always have dried herbs in the cupboard.
These potatoes are even easier to make because they use my herby potato seasoning. I make a jar’s worth of this at a time which I can grab out of the cupboard any time I want to add instant flavour to my potatoes.
do you need to peel the potatoes?
It is completely up to you whether you peel your potatoes. If I’m making chips, slices or wedges I don’t usually peel my potatoes.
I like to leave the skin on because I like the flavour of the skin. But also it saves a lot of time not having to peel the potatoes! Peeling potatoes happens to be one of my least favourite tasks in the kitchen.
If you do peel your potatoes, make sure you keep the peelings to make my Air Fryer Potato Peel Crisps.
do you need to preheat an air fryer?
That depends on your air fryer, some require preheating whilst others don’t. I have a Ninja 7-in-1 multicooker and a Ninja Foodi Flexdrawer and I have never preheated either of them.
If your air fryer does require preheating, check the potatoes a few minutes sooner than the recipe states. If your air fryer is warm, food is likely to cook a few minutes faster.
can you use an air fryer liner?
Air fryer liners are a great time saving addition because they are usually easier to wash than the basket of your air fryer.
Most reusable air fryer liners are silicone and although they are handy to have, I wouldn’t recommend using them for all recipes.
Potatoes in general take longer to crisp up if you use a liner but you could use one if you really wanted.
I’ve written a whole post on whether you should use an air fryer liner, check it out for more information.
how to serve air fryer herby potatoes
These herby potatoes are incredibly versatile and can be served with so many different meals. Any meal that would be complimented by herbs would be perfect to serve these potatoes.
I also like to serve them with meals like my Slow Cooker Chicken Casserole, Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole and Slow Cooker Pork & Mustard Stew.
They would also work really well as an alternative to roast potatoes served with my Air Fryer Whole Roast Chicken or Honey Glazed Ham.
